June 25, 2021 – In celebration of Pride, Rocket Station conducted its special live stream program, Our Proud Space. The project was created as a platform for members and supporters of the LGBTQ+ community to share their thoughts and experiences. Our Proud Space also highlighted courageous stories and triumphs that have allowed for further inclusivity in the workplace.

The program was hosted by Rocket Station’s Director of Operations, Romil Hombrebueno. It also invited multiple panelists to share their opinions on the show. This included Rocket Station HOPELine coach Bea Hombrebueno and HOPELine counselor Ronald Recio, RPsy. Rocketeers from the LGBTQ+ community were also invited for their internal insight. These were Tippy Destacamento, a gay Virtual Lead Manager who is also an accomplished makeup artist, Sam Santos, a gay Recruitment Lead with expertise on bilingual assistants, and Kaey Soluta, a trans Operations Manager who handles one of Rocket Station’s largest clients. The accomplishments of these proud Rocketeers show how capable our friends from the LGBTQ+ community are when given equal opportunities to spread their wings.

Our Proud Space tackled several relevant topics such as workplace inclusivity, challenges of being from the LGBTQ+ community, giving proper support, and finding self-acceptance. Each of the panelists gave their ideas on the topics and shared personal experiences from their previous encounters.

The talk regarding workplace inclusivity tackled equal work opportunities for all, opinions being heard, and respecting the identities of co-workers. Challenges in the workforce were highlighted as well, such as preconceptions about the community, different forms of discrimination, and an overall lack of understanding about gender identity. Panelist Sam Santos also shared their own personal story of being discriminated against while they were finding a job in a different company.

To call for further action against these pressing issues, Our Proud Space went ahead to explore the different forms of support one can give to make a difference. Key things to remember were to be open-minded and hearted, being respectful of privacy, being mindful of pronouns, and being honest about your stand with the LGBTQ+ community. This support also comes in the form of being an ally to those who have not yet come out, and by supporting those who are going through the journey of self-acceptance.
